The Spirit of Learning
Sunday School is recessed for the summer.
Vacation Bible School was held on Sunday, June 24. Twenty-one children enjoyed the theme Waterworks Park. Each Bible story demonstrated a miracle God did, using water in order to show His love for His people.
Sunday School classes are available for all ages, from toddlers to adults. All are welcome to attend the Bible lessons at 9:30 a.m. preceding the worship service at 10:30 a.m., whether or not they stay for the worship service.
A preschool class for four- and five-year-olds teaches lessons through stories and crafts.
The Bible Discovery Zone for grade school children uses a rotation workshop model for curriculum. It features drama, videos, art, Bible skills, cooking, games and other activities to teach Bible principles.
A youth class for seventh graders and older offers discussion on subjects that affect teens and how they can use Christian principles to face situations. The teens are also involved in the fellowship and services projects of the Youth Group. (See "The Spirit of Fellowship.")
An adult class meets in the sanctuary, studies the Bible and offers discussion.
Kidz Klub is an after-school program for children from kindergarten through sixth grade. It offers fellowship and fun activities while teaching Bible lessons. A fall session and a spring session are held. There is a tuition charge, but scholarships are available for those who could not otherwise be able to attend. A typical afternoon consists of supervised games, crafts or a project and stories centered around a theme, such as "Narnia." The children share a meal together, prepared by volunteers, and have conversation with their "table parents."
Vacation Bible School for school-age children is held in the summer with themes like Jesus' Market Place, rotating to various learning centers where they have fun while learning about Bible principles.
Camperships are available so that children may go to summer church camp. The Apple Butter Festival Committee makes a 10 percent tithe on the profits from the annual event and puts it in the Campership Fund. Camps are sponsored by both the UCC and the UMC denominations. For more information on the availability of summer church camps, please contact the Christian Education Committee.
These opportunities are planned by the Christian Education Committee, which meets the second Thursday of each month. For more information, to register for Kidz Klub or Vacation Bible School, or to offer suggestions, contact the Christian Education Committee.
